Federal Emergency Management Agency employee fired for directing staff to rescue hurricane survivor The agency’s top official said in a statement Saturday that people should not go to homes with yard signs supporting President-elect Donald Trump.
“This is a clear violation of FEMA’s core values and principles of helping people regardless of their political affiliation,” FEMA Administrator Dean Criswell said in a statement on social media. “This was reprehensible.”
The agency did not identify the employee or say where the incident occurred.
But Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called the attack “targeted discrimination” against Floridians who support President Trump and said it happened in Florida.
DeSantis said he has directed the Florida Department of Emergency Management to begin an investigation into the matter.
“The blatant weaponization of government by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is another reason the Biden-Harris administration is dying,” DeSantis said on social media.
“New leadership is emerging in Washington, D.C., and I’m optimistic that these partisan bureaucrats will be fired,” he said.
FEMA’s statement and DeSantis’ comments did not provide details about when the incident occurred or the community. FEMA officials are helping residents recover across the state. from hurricane miltonwhich destroyed many communities in Florida last month.
Criswell said he is determined to hold his employees accountable.
“We will continue to do everything in our power to prevent something like this from happening again,” she said.
