Construction began on a 180-foot statue of the Virgin Mary in Conotopy, Poland.
This project is believed to be the highest religious structure of this kind when it is finished.
The statue of Mary itself sits on a pedestal in the form of a 50-foot-high crown and reaches 133.2 feet tall.

The crown forms an observation that serves as a place for pilgrimage.
“Mary is a model for perfect love and obedience to Christ. God preserved Mary from sin, and she imagined our Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit, bringing Christ to our world.”

In a press release from Wirtalny Torun, the group says there is sentimental meaning behind the location of the statue.

“The location of the Virgin Mary’s monument is no coincidence, it is close to the existing sanctuary of the blessed Virgin Mary of Conotopia,” the group said.

“There is a wonderful figure of Our Lady of Sorrow there, where pilgrimage has come for years from the whole land of Dobridin,” the release said.
