The offseason for college football is underway, but there are many questions left. On Tuesday, news that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewors played almost the entire year of 2024 was played at a slanted diagonal that was broken against Michigan State in week two. Playing him will have a new focus on the backup archmanning, which he plans to take over as a starter in 2025.
Furthermore, the spring game found itself in the crosshairs as the team worry about talent being poached after a strong performance. Ohio, Texas and Florida are ranked as one of the most popular programs that no longer hold true games.
With the offseason going on, CBS Sports’ Shehanjeyaraja and Brad Crawford are among the sports surrounding the industry, including those topics and whether Miami quarterback Carson Beck is the new villain after returning to another season. Many other topics are bought and sold.
1. Buy and sell: Do you feel good about the Ohio coordinator overhaul?
Crawford: Sale. The complexity associated with replacing both coordinators after the National Championship run is a harsh reality brought about by success. Frankly, Ryan Day went 2-2 with these recruitments. While internal promotions don’t always make the most sense, the transition to Brian Hartline as an OC must be smooth. When Chip Kelly was in his bag last season, the Buckeyes were offensively rhythmic, something that Heartline has to understand for himself. He already held the OC with the Buckeyes, but in 2023 he didn’t call the play. Gim Cowles’ impact on Ohio’s defense in each of the past few seasons, the Buckeyes had to be pawnees and achieve his asking price. Going with Matt Patricia feels like a downgrade despite having the resources to retain knowledge.
Ohio State hires Matt Patricia as defensive coordinator and promotes Brian Hartline as offensive coordinator
It’ll be Bacchus
Jeyarajah: Sale. Ohio State was undoubtedly the best-tuned team in college football behind Chip Kelly and the Jim Knowles last season. Kelly will not be long at work after resigning from UCLA to lead the offense, but his failure to maintain his knowledge remains odd for a program of this size. The Buckeyes were Title or Bust in 2024 and offered a historic season, but it’s hard to consider this as anything other than starting from scratch. Matt Patricia certainly managed to bring some success, but when he last worked in defense in 2020, the Detroit Lions featured the worst defense in the NFL.
2. Buy and sell: Torn Oblick Quin Awors Should I start through Arch Manning?
Crawford: Sale. Steve Sarkisian should be praised for how he managed this quarterback room throughout the 2024 season. Considering Manning’s star power, it was Austin’s pressure cooker. Sarkisian reveals that his starting quarterback will lose his job due to injury, somehow satisfying the additional gamer with a five-star backup, and outside of Bath in the National Championship Game I finished a few plays. Was Manning a better option for the Longhorns stretch? perhaps. Ewers threw five intercepts, had no mobility and was fired 15 times from the SEC Championship Game until the end of the playoffs.
Jeyarajah: Buy. Look, I got it, Manning’s charm is strong. With his limited appearance, his deep ball accuracy looks great, and there’s no doubt he’s added something with his running ability. At the same time, Ewers must be the most successful No. 1 recruit of all time, in order to never praise the team’s success. Texas has gone 25-5 in the last two seasons, including its only conference championship since 2009. Ewors was also the only quarterback to lead his team to consecutive national semi-finals over the past two seasons. There is no serious case where a freshman quarterback can make it possible to simply replicate all of that with zero flaws. Manning will be ready next year.
3. Buy and sell: Is Carson Beck actually a “villain” in 2025?
Crawford: Sale. Carson Beck is a preseason Heisman frontrunner who will be playing the new Big Ten star child, Paul Feinbaum Harping or Arch Manning at the SEC despite his career-best highlights against Mississippi and UTSA. -Since he’s received the Laurels, he’s not as bad as Ryan Day next season. He is the face of the sport as the top player on this cycle’s transfer portal, but he feels the “villain” is a bit strong. Beck made business decisions for his future. If he could appear in Miami with the talent around him in the ACC and reduce stupid interceptions, he could potentially return to the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft billing.
Jeyarajah: Buy. Beck has done nothing wrong, but fair or not, he is set to be the face of his NIL era in college football. He moved to Miami, perhaps the most offensive NIL program in the country. He is dating Hannah Cabinder, a Miami women’s basketball player and Tiktok star. He had not one but two extravagants. Stolen carand because he makes a lot of money, he turned down the NFL draft.
Internal Carsonbeck Transfer: The Quiet Tensions and What Comes Next Behind Georgia’s Departure
Chris Hammer

Everything Beck has done over the past two years, he’s been posting a lot with his head bowed, but that doesn’t matter. All eyes are on him. Incidentally, I hope he delivers. It’s frankly ridiculous how much his stock sinks after all Georgia’s units struggled around him. Also, I hope he will be the first round pick.
4. Buy and sell: Did Nebraska and Tennessee need to keep the series?
Crawford: Sale. Neither programme can result in potential losses on schedules in 2026 and 2027. Not two teams that budding superstar quarterbacks hope to take them to the college football playoffs. Though Tennessee’s schedule is littered with quality opponents, Nebraska is trying to stay above the water alongside Matt Ruhr after reaching bowl eligibility for the first time since last fall. The “Good Ongood” non-conference matchup featuring the Power 4 competition is perfect for viewers, but not so many for participating teams with tough league slates waiting for them.
Jeyarajah: Buy. There are two types of Big Ten and SEC programs: related and straggler. The former has nothing to lose from playing a competitive game that attracts attention. The latter has nothing to gain as you are only praying to discover bowl eligibility. It’s a shame Nebraska sees herself in the second group. “If the Huskers take the step that many people expect in 2025, they can join as national candidates in 2026. In that case, their chance to beat Tennessee could be a program-changing moment There is. For me, cancelling a matchup is shortsighted.
5. Buy and sell: TV networks need to intervene Save the spring game?
Crawford: Sale. Let’s be honest – how many spring games are scheduled for April each year? You might want to see the unofficial debut of the five-star freshman, but these glory practices and situational football that made more noise than tackles make the coaches more roster from a depth perspective. It’s a way to feel it well. From a fan’s perspective, yes, eliminating the spring game is discouraged, but don’t mistake your coach as you don’t want to take part in the portal’s potential poacher dress rehearsal.
Jeyarajah: Sale. I’m a big advocate for the Spring Games and I think they should be played, but they don’t have to be a TV product. In fact, some of the beauty of the spring games is that they are for building fans, not for network viewers. Georgia, Colorado and Ohio State have been ranked nationally among teams playing TV spring games in recent years, offering less national value. Spring games are for fans, and you don’t have to worry about TV timeouts or presentations.
Crawford: Sale. Oregon needed an instant starter with offensive tackles given the loss of the program’s NFL draft and the world is legal, but will use the Dark Horse Pick, the most impactful in the Big Ten. Indiana hit a home run with the acquisition of quarterback Fernando Mendoza from Cal. He is a player who will become statistically dominant this fall after being handed the key to the Hoosiers attack from Curt Cignetti.
Jeyarajah: Sale. Call me a pessimist, but I’m wary of how much individual offensive line transfers can change your wealth. Ohio’s Seth McLaughlin was a real solidarity last season, and he was a multi-year SEC standout. World and Emmanuel Pregnancy (USC) should work together to solidify the Oregon Line, but I look to a safer position for top productions. Nebrasca wide receiver Dane Kee (Kentucky) posted 715 yards in a disastrous Wildcats offense and joined Dylan Raiola and offensive coordinator Dana Holgolsen. Don’t be surprised if Key is one of the most productive pass-catchers in the country.
