A field trip to a Wisconsin apple orchard was ruined when a tractor rolled over, injuring at least 17 people, including a child.
During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Chippewa Fire Department Deputy Chief Corey Jeffers said two hay trucks being pulled by a tractor overturned at Bushel and Peck Apple Orchard in Lafayette, Wisconsin.
Jeffers said three patients were transported with life-threatening injuries, five with serious injuries and nine others were taken by ambulance. One patient was transported by helicopter and the others were taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
Authorities did not provide details about the injuries.

Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes said in a statement on social media that several children were riding in a wagon with their parents and chaperones through the orchard when the incident occurred.

Hakes said the wagon lost control going downhill and when he tried to stop it suddenly rolled over.
“When incidents like this occur, it’s essential that we focus on the safety of the victims and efforts to reunite children with their parents,” he said. “I was there myself, stabilizing the children and helping to reunite them with their parents.”
