The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense took a big hit Sunday when Patrick Mahomes and Laci Rice collided, forcing the wide receiver to be ejected.
Rice was diagnosed with a right knee injury, and the team was reportedly concerned about a possible anterior cruciate ligament tear. He took the ball from Mahomes’ shoulder as he tried to tackle Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Christian Fulton after the interception.

“Obviously the corner was a good play, trying to take a shot to (Travis Kelce’s) body,” Mahomes said. “I beat him a little bit and turned the ball over and I thought Rachy made a really good play. I was trying to tackle the player and obviously it rolled over him. If I don’t turn the ball over, that’s it.” That’s never going to happen, so you have to work on improving that.
“I didn’t know exactly what happened because he was obviously trying to make a tackle, but I know Lachie and how tough he is. That’s why he was down like that. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to be there. That’s all we had to do.” I hope the results of the X-rays, MRIs, etc. are better than they look, but I hope the next person comes back. It means until it comes. ”
Rice cautiously returned to the bench before being carted off the field.
“I feel terrible for Lachie,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “…I will do my best.”

This will be a huge loss for the Chiefs. The Chiefs are already without Hollywood Brown this season, as he suffered a season-ending injury before joining his new team.
Kansas City is also without star running back Isaiah Pacheco for several weeks after breaking his fibula in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Rice’s return to the NFL field is also uncertain due to off-field issues. He is awaiting trial on several charges stemming from a high-speed car crash on a Texas highway in March. Rice could face NFL disciplinary action through the legal process.
