“Now is the time for our members to secure these results and confidently declare victory,” the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said in a statement. “We have had a lot of success so far, so we don’t think it’s right to ask our members to continue the strike for much longer.”
The recommendation comes just over a week after union members voted to reject an earlier contract offer and less than seven weeks after 33,000 members resigned on September 13. Ta.
IAM leadership said the latest proposal “builds on everything achieved in the September 12, 2024 agreement” and also adds a general wage increase of 38% over four years.
The average machinist salary at the end of the contract will be $119,309, about $43,700 more than the average under the previous contract, the company said.
The new proposal also consolidates the $7,000 recognition bonus and $5,000 severance pay from previously rejected contracts into one $12,000 lump sum, which members can use in their salary, 401k, or a combination of the two. You can choose to add to either.
The latest proposal increases the company’s 401k matching, but does not restore pension benefits that were frozen in 2014. The reinstatement of the pension scheme was one of the key issues that led union members to reject an earlier proposal.
