Barbie said he is working with the LeBron James Family Foundation to release the first Ken doll of professional athletes, Mattel said in a statement.
Mattel said next year that Ken’s character celebrates the 65th anniversary and is excited to expand “Kenbassador” along with James’ first Ken doll.
“Ken is Barbie’s longtime best friend and supporter,” said Christa Berger, senior vice president of Barbie and Mattel of the Global of Dolls. “We look forward to providing our fans with Ken’s new presentation celebrating LeBron as a role model, his iconic status, his lasting impact on culture, and dedication to setting positive examples for the next generation to reach their infinite potential.”
James said he was fortunate to have a role model who inspired him and showed him that hard work and dedication is important to achieving things in life. He recognized his Ken doll release as an honor.
“It’s an opportunity to instill confidence, stimulate dreams and recognize the powerful impact of role models that show children that they can achieve greatness,” James said.
True to James’ style and portrait, his Ken doll is 1 inch taller and comes in a larger package than a standard doll. James Doll has adorn LeBron James Family Foundation’s “We Are Family” T-shirt, Nike sneakers, beat headphones, sunglasses, fanny packs, gold watches and his perennial “I Promise” band.
The doll will be on sale April 14th at 12:01pm and will be available for $75.
