Hudson Meek, a child actor known for his role in the 2017 film “Baby Driver,” has died, authorities announced. he was 16 years old.
Meek was pronounced dead on December 21 at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, the Jefferson County Coroner confirmed to CBS News. The coroner’s report said he died from blunt force injuries sustained when he fell from a moving vehicle two days earlier.
The coroner said the police department in Vestavia Hills, the Birmingham suburb where Meek lived and where the incident occurred, was investigating the circumstances of Meek’s death.
A Sunday post on Meek’s Instagram account announced that he had died, but did not share details about what happened.
The post’s caption reads, “My heart is broken to share that Hudson Meek went home tonight to be with Jesus. His 16 years on earth were too short, but he was blessed with so much… He accomplished many things and had a profound impact on everyone he met.”
According to a second post and obituary shared to social media on Wednesday, Meek’s memorial service is scheduled to be held this Saturday, Dec. 28, at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama, and can be viewed livestreamed. He says he plans to do it.
His obituary described him as “thoughtful and considerate,” as well as “persistent when he set his mind to something.”
“Mr. Hudson’s personality was unique,” it says. “He was self-confident, sure of his beliefs, spontaneous, and quick-witted. He never let facts get in the way of a funny story, and he never allowed friendly banter. He was mischievous, loved a good joke, and was happiest when he was making others laugh. ”
Meek was a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, where he played football, was a member of the choir and the school’s Christian Athletes, according to his obituary. His acting career began in 2017, when he played a younger version of Ansel Elgort’s famous character in the action crime film Baby Driver.
