At least 18 people were injured Delta Air Lines The area jet crashed when it landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport and turned over on Monday afternoon, but everything survived, officials said.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, all 80 people on board (76 passengers and four crew members) were evacuated from the plane, a CRJ-900 regional jet, after an accident that occurred around 2:45pm. . Flights to the airport were temporarily suspended, but resumed as of 5pm.
Delta said in a statement that it cancelled the remaining flights to and from Toronto on Monday and issued travel waiver to affected passengers.
“The minds of the entire Global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto Pearson International Airport,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement. “I would like to thank so many Delta and Endeavor team members and the site’s first responders.”
Operated by Delta’s local subsidiary, Delta Flight 4819 was born in the Delta hub at Minneapolis-Saints Paul International Airport.
Toronto Airport said it was expecting a busy day and a storm that dumped more than eight inches of snow in the area.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash. Weather reports show winds between 20 and 30 mph on Monday, with gusts of wind up to 40 mph.
The Canadian Road Safety Board will lead the investigation into crash crashes. The National Transportation Safety Board said a team of US investigators will be taking part in the investigation.
