Many Americans are “snowbird” travelers who flock to warm destinations during the winter, but some “globirders” seek more than clear skies.
The latest trends are capturing the attention of younger generations, with Gen Z booking trips that emphasize health and physical activity.
Connor Smith, vice president of IHG Hotels & Resorts, told Fox News Digital that younger travelers are also “tired of the cold.”

“I grew up living in the Northeast, so I understand where they’re coming from,” Smith said.
“But escaping the cold isn’t just about finding warmer weather; it’s also a way to manage seasonal affective disorder (SAD).”
Smith added, “At IHG Hotels & Resorts, more and more guests are incorporating wellness into their travels to nourish their mind, body and spirit.”
Gabby Beckford, Gen Z content creator at @PacksLight, shared in a VRBO press release, “My generation is experience-focused and mental health-focused.”
“More and more guests are incorporating wellness into their travels.”
She also says, “Escaping the cold isn’t just about finding warmer weather. It’s been key to managing my seasonal depression…plus a place where I can be active outdoors year-round.” “When I’m there, I feel better both physically and mentally.”

The “globird” season begins in January, right after the holiday rush.
That will last through most of March, according to the release.
According to McKinsey’s Future of Wellness 2023 study, 56% of Gen Z in the U.S. consider in-person fitness a very high priority.
The study also found that Millennial and Gen Z consumers spend more on health and wellness than other generations.
