The countdown will begin. In less than 20 days, the actual ID requirements will be effective and Americans will need to obtain a new format of identification to fly domestically.
Other identifications accepted in place of an actual ID include a valid US passport or passport card. DHS is a trusted traveler card such as Global Entry. Department of Defense ID; Permanent Resident Card; and Border Crossing Card.
As of Friday morning in New Jersey, the Department of Automobile (NJDMV) website had indicated that “0 appointments available” to the actual ID service on that site.

However, there were 13,380 reservations available for non-driver IDs, and 31,107 appointments were open to transfer driver licenses from out of state.
DMVs across the country are reportedly working to meet demand, implementing actual Saturday ID events and extending booking times on weekdays.

If your driver’s license is within the renewal period, the person can book a renewal appointment to upgrade to a real ID. And for that, there are 51,906 reservations.
Fox News Digital has reached out to NJDMV for comment.
“Real ID” appointments are not open in New Jersey as residents ring out: “With the Times, New Jersey.”
TSA New England spokesman Daniel Veres told Fox News Digital on Friday that it “invaded” its May 7 deadline policy and that the requirements “will not be pushed back.”
Release dates happen to drop on Wednesday. This is one of the busy travel days of the week, Velez said.

The airport is finalizing a plan for how to handle travelers who do not have the proper identification to fly. He added that travel delays will be “almost in the meantime.”
Actual reaction to actual ID
The approaching deadline for the actual ID has drawn comments from both supporters and critics, sparking debate on social media.
“Real ID is literally a regular ID with a small star to show you that DMV Clerk has a document with your name and address. That’s fine, people.”
“As usual, there are no reservations when needed.”
Another user said, “You can see that Real ID is a trend. The BS about this is that you have to make a reservation. You can’t walk in the DMV and you can’t take care of it. As always, there are no reservations when you need it.”

“You can sell tents on their lawns. Go out camp until they can see you,” someone else joked about the appointment of the DMV.
Another said, “Actual ID is a shame for all American citizens. What’s next?”

“It took the state 25 years to implement the actual ID and it’s accusing you of delaying your condition,” one user said.

Posted by another user. “The fact that there are around 90 million people in this country who can’t fly from May 7 unless they pay to get their actual IDs, which seems to be a bigger story.”
“I don’t know if it’s the same in all states, but in Nevada you have to physically go to DMV to get it.

Rich Davis, senior security advisor at Global Travel Assistance Company International SOS, said he would suggest waiting for an appointment if possible.

“If you don’t have an immediate trip plan or you already have a passport, it’s worth waiting for a reservation,” Illinois-based Davis told Fox News Digital.
“We expect availability to improve after the deadline, making it easier to get the actual ID.”
