Mexican tourists face accusations after he climbs the world’s new seven wonders before the fierce locals bet on the man and take justice into his own hands.
The footage of the bystanders shows individuals (someone whom authorities have not yet named) expanding their sides of the Kukulkan temple at Chichen Itza in Yucatan last week.
About 9,000 tourists flocked to the temple to observe the spring equinox, one of two separate visitors who climbed the pyramid on Thursday, according to local outlet Mexico News.

“Even though we were monitoring the west side of the temple, he escaped us,” a National Guard member told Mexico News daily. “He ran past us. He’s clearly feeling better.”
The video shows one of the men expanding the procedure as security guards chase him. One of the 38-year-old German tourists tried to hide inside the pyramid chamber, but was discovered by authorities and reportedly escorted from a historic location.
Mexican national security guards and staff at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) tried to protect the man who was being attacked by the crowd as angry spectators cried out “should be victimized.”

The incident witnesses an event known as the feathered snake descend, a natural phenomenon in which thousands of tourists flock to Chichen Itza and cast a snake shaped shadow along the pyramid steps.
The site hosts a four-day programme featuring activities that guests can enjoy. However, the event does not include climbing the nearly 1,000-year-old pyramid, which was banned in 2006 to protect the structure.
According to the Mexico News Daily, the two tourists have been arrested and face potential fines under Section 55 of the Federal Act regarding Mexico’s archaeological, artistic and historical monuments and zones.

A surprising similar incident took place two years ago when Polish tourists chose to expand the same pyramid.
When authorities arrested him, the man was filmed running up the stairs of a sacred temple before bystanders smacked him with a stick. According to the Mexico Daily Post, the man was placed in prison for 12 hours and fined 5,000 pesos.
