Apple has released a new feature that will make it easier for travelers to track down lost luggage.
An iOS update will allow users to share AirTag or Find My network locations with third parties, allowing airlines to use this feature to connect people with missing bags.
“The Find My network and AirTags have proven to be a powerful combination for users when they travel, helping them avoid misplaced or mishandled bags,” Eddie Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, said in a press release. “It provides valuable location information when you need it.”

Cue added, “With Share Items Location, we’re excited to give our users a new way to easily share this information directly with third parties, like airlines, while protecting their privacy.”
iPhone, iPad, or Mac users can generate a “Share item location” link in the Find My app. This allows recipients to view a website that displays items on an interactive map with updated timestamps as new locations become available.
This link is accessible to a limited number of people and requires authentication with an Apple account or partner email address before viewing the tracking site.

Apple announced that more than 15 airlines, including United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, will begin accepting “Find My item” locations to help find lost baggage in the coming months.

A United Airlines spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement that more details will be shared in the future.
“In the coming months, United Airlines will begin accepting location information for Find My items as part of our customer service process to locate mishandled or delayed bags,” the spokesperson said. said.
