iOS 18.3.2 iPhone software update (Kurt “Cyberguy” Knutsson)
What is CVE-2025-24201?
The vulnerability lies in WebKit, an open source browser engine that powers Safari, Mail, App Store and other apps on Apple devices. This flaw is an out-of-range writing issue to enable attackers to use and use malicious web content, a major security layer that separates web content from access to sensitive system resources. Apple acknowledges that the vulnerability could have been exploited in a very advanced attack targeting a particular individual using an older version of iOS before 17.2. These attacks are believed to involve funded threat actors, such as state-sponsored hackers and advanced cybercrime groups.
Why is this important?
Zero-day vulnerabilities like CVE-2025-24201 are particularly dangerous as they are exploited before developers can patch them. In this case, the attack was highly targeted, so it is unlikely that most users will be directly affected. However, these incidents underscore the importance of regularly updating devices to remain protected from evolving threats.

What does Apple do about it?
Apple released an emergency patch on March 11, 2025 as part of the iOS 18.3.2 and iPads 18.3.2 updates. These updates introduce improved checks to prevent fraudulent actions caused by vulnerabilities. This patch is a supplementary fix to a previous attack that was mitigated in iOS 17.2.
