On Tuesday, on the first day of the World Short Channel Swimming Championships in Hungary, the American team led by two-time Olympic medalist Jacques Alexie dominated the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay, winning the gold medal and setting a new world record.
Alexie, who won her first gold medal in the same event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, broke the American and World Championship records with a leadoff time of 45.05 seconds.

Luke Hobson, Kieran Smith and Chris Guiliano completed the relay to win the gold medal and set a world record with an official time of 3:01.66. It beat the previous record by two seconds.
The victory capped off a big day for the American, who won five world records and four gold medals.
USA wins first Olympic gold medal in men’s 4x100m freestyle relay
Kate Douglas set a world record in the women’s 200m individual medley with a time of 2:01.63, followed by teammate Alex Walsh in second place. The women’s 4×100 team also set a world record of 3 minutes 25.01 seconds and won the gold medal.
American Shane Casas also set a course record with his gold medal swim in the men’s 200m individual medley.

Competition continues on Wednesday with the women’s 800m freestyle final, women’s 50m butterfly final, men’s 100m backstroke final, men’s 50m butterfly final and mixed 4×50 medley relay final.
