Ryan Fecto, Democrat Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, deleted his X account early Thursday morning, days after censoring Republican Rep. Laurel Libby.
Libby was criticized Tuesday evening by a Democrat majority in a recent social media post pointing to transgender high school athletes winning the girls’ competition. The condemnation resolution was passed 75-70 votes, revoking Libby’s speech and voting privileges.
Fecteau said at the hearing that Libby’s rights would not be restored until an apology was made, but she said she would not apologize that night.
Libby noted that Fecteau’s account was deactivated on the X Post on Thursday.
“Apparently, Maine’s House Speaker didn’t like to hear people say… State Rep. Ryan Fecto deleted his X account within 48 hours when the Democrat majority tried to cancel me,” Libby wrote in a screenshot of the deleted account page.
Fox News Digital reached out to Fecteau for comment.

Fecteau had active his Facebook and Bluesky accounts, but has not addressed the situation regarding Libby or his account deactivation. Many of his posts on these platforms are flooded with comments from people criticizing his decision to denounce Libby.
“You’re a co-sick, you’re a co-sick person with no thorns, reckless, and co-sick person who clearly hates young girls,” one user commented on Fecteau’s latest Facebook post.
“While Trump and the Republicans are Nazis and wanting a dictatorship, you silence the representatives to express effective concerns of her members, highlighting the usual hypocrisy of Democrats,” another Facebook user commented.
Fecteau has served as Maine’s Chairman of Maine since 2020. As of the December 2020 election, Fecteau was 28 years old and the youngest active state president in the United States and the first openly gay to serve as a speaker at the Main House.
How transgenderism in sports changed the 2024 election and sparked national counterculture
On Tuesday, Fecto passed Libby’s denunciation based on a social media post about trans athletes, identifying minors in photos and including the athlete’s name.
Libby’s Post Identifying Trans Athlete came last Sunday when a transgender track and field athlete pointed out that he was number one in the Main Girls Pole Vault competition after competing as a boy exactly a year ago.

“This is an amazing double standard as there are public photos of this individual in many places on social media and even posted by his school. Yes, this post went viral, but this was an individual who attended a public event.
During the vote Tuesday, Libby also approached the House floor with a seven-page speech on the importance of protecting girls and women’s sports from transgender inclusion. But her microphone was consistently off as she was about to give that speech all night.
“I couldn’t put any words out of the first sentence before the other side closed me down,” Libby said.
The revelation of transgender athlete Libby sparked national conversations and coverage of state policies on trans inclusion after Maine announced it would not comply with President Donald Trump’s recent executive order of “no-men in women’s sports.”
Trump then vowed to cut funds to the state for refusing to comply with his orders at the governor’s gathering at the White House last week.
On Friday, Mills’ office responded in a statement threatening legal action against the Trump administration if it withholds federal funds from the state. Trump and Mills were then orally sparred at the White House during a bipartisan meeting of the governor.
Hours after that interaction, the U.S. Department of Education announced that it would investigate the state to allow trans athletes to compete against women’s sports and potential Title IX violations.
