Reddit users have been complaining about connectivity issues on online forums, and thousands told DownDetector on Wednesday that the service was down.
Reddit said in a service post that it was aware of a “degradation of service” for users of its website and app, adding that it was investigating the issue.
Reddit users began reporting problems accessing the site around 3pm ET on Wednesday, and the number of reports soared to nearly 50,000 shortly thereafter. As of 5:30 p.m., some users were still unable to connect to Reddit, with a message on the website saying, “The CDN (content delivery network) was unable to reach our servers.”
Reddit did not respond to a request for comment.
Reddit, which went public in March, reported its first profit as a publicly traded company last month. The social media service reported a 47% increase in daily users to 97.2 million compared to the same period last year.
Has Blue Sky also fallen?
DownDetector also reported an issue with Bluesky, an X-like service, on Wednesday.
At around 3:45 p.m. ET, more than 2,000 users reported problems with Bluesky’s server connections and website, according to DownDetector.
Blue Sky said in a post Wednesday that it experienced “some technical issues today” but service has been restored. Bluesky said Tuesday that the service has more than 20 million registered users, with 1 million new users joining each day over the past few days. Many of these new users are dissatisfied X users.
Bluesky, championed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, opened to the public in February after starting as an invite-only space. This invite-only period gave the site time to build out moderation tools and other features.
The platform is similar to Musk’s X, with a “discovery” feed and a chronological feed of accounts the user follows. Users can send direct messages, pin posts, and also find a “starter pack” that provides a curated list of people to follow and a custom feed.
