Archaeologists of the Jewish Desert have unearthed a “mystical pyramidal structure” 200 years ago.
Evacuation was a joint mission between the Israeli Ancient Bureau (IAA) and the Ministry of Excavation, Ministry of Heritage.
According to a joint press release, the structure is tied to Ptolemy and Seleucus when they ruled Israel.

“What we have here is one of the richest and most interesting archaeological excavations we have ever seen in the Jewish Desert,” said IAA’s director of excavations Matan Toledano, Dr. Eitan Klein and Amir Ganor.

The structure is made of hand-covered stones, each stone weighing several hundred pounds.

“We still don’t know for certain what the building is meant,” the evacuation director said.
This structure is believed to have been a guard tower, a tomb marker, or perhaps even an ancient monument.

“It’s a fascinating historical mystery,” the director said in the release.

According to Israeli tourists, the Jewish Desert is a rocky desert about 800 metres from the Dead Sea.
The ancient discoveries provided new information and altered the site’s historical records.
“Contrary to previous hypotheses that attribute this structure to the first temple era, it appears that it was built during the Hellenistic era, when Israeli land was under Ptolemy’s control,” the release states.
