A young girl and her classmates find a message in a bottle, only to learn that the bottle’s previous owner was no stranger.
Scarlett Van Eyck, a fourth-grader at St. John’s Catholic Elementary School, was on a field trip to the Great Lakes when another student pointed out a strange-looking bottle, FOX 8 WJW reported.
When the teacher begins reading the letter in the bottle, Scarlett Van Eyck is stunned to discover that it was written by her own mother, Makenzie Van Eyck.

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the letter reads, “This letter comes from Makenzie Morris. I attend St. John the Baptist School. I am a 4th grade student in Mr. St. Pierre’s class. I am a first-year student,” it read.
“My letter is about the waters of the Great Lakes. We read a book called ‘Paddle to the Sea’. It was a very good book.”
According to FOX 8, the message in the bottle dates back to 1998, when Makenzie Van Eyck was a fourth-grader at St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School in Bell River, Ont., just like her daughter. That’s what it means.

Makenzie Van Eyck and her classmates at the time were assigned to write letters about the Great Lakes, then put the notes in a jar and threw them into the water, the newspaper reported.
Makenzie Van Eyck told CBC she “absolutely” remembers writing the message on a bottle and sending it to the Great Lakes.
