Stars and Avalanches line up in first round matchups featuring perhaps the two best teams in the current Western Conference. The winner will soon become a favorite to win the 2025 Stanley Cup. Colorado is my choice of that series, and the star deals with some serious injuries. Las Vegas has the potential sleeper look.

History suggests that the award will be sent to the top players of the Stanley Cup winning team. Last year, McDavid became the sixth player to win Conn Smythe while playing for a team that didn’t win the Stanley Cup. This year, we hope that the Smythe winner will become the Stanley Cup champion. And my early prediction is that the final Stanley Cup champion will be the team that won the Stars Avalanche series.
When Colorado last won the Stanley Cup, Makar brought Comte Smythe home. Nathan McKinnon at 14-1 is attractive, but at 22-1 McCal is too good to pass a value.
When it comes to potential sleepers, Valeri Nichuskin could play a pivotal role for Colorado if the team can go for a deeper run. His odds opened 300-1, but was betted at 150-1.
